Join us for the 3rd edition of Acoustic Rendez-Vous, a showcase of singer-songwriters in an intimate setting in downtown San Carlos. Family-owned Clock Tower Music, on Laurel Street in San Carlos, offers space for music lessons as well as rentals and sales of musical instruments, sheet music, and supplies. Owners Brian and Susan Kimmel are lifelong supporters of local music, and have generously offered their space for these unique gatherings of local, original music makers.

This Friday, July 13, enjoy the sounds of Jon Wittenberg and EllaHarp, along with Chinese Melodrama.

EllaHarp:
Bay Area based harpist and songwriter of blues, folk and pop
influence, Ella spent 4 years studying harp in rainy Scotland and
holds a BA in Scottish Music from the Royal Scottish Academy of
Music and Drama in Glasgow. Her own songwriting melds hints of
traditional music with bluesy riffs and melodies to create a style
not generally associated as having anything to do with the harp.
She is the granddaughter of conductor composer arranger Gordon
Jenkins (Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland) and
Disneyland bandleader and studio musician Bill Ulyate (Disneyland,
Fox orchestra). Ella designs and sews all her own clothing, built
a tiny house on wheels which she lived in for over 5 years, and
designed and built her own unique harp with her boyfriend that is
specifically suited to travel and the style of music she plays.

Jon Wittenberg:
Jon Wittenberg grew up in the coastal town of Ventura California, where he started playing piano and trumpet at a young age. His piano studies continued through his first two years of college where he began as a music major at Humboldt State University, but ended when he decided to leave music due to a major family event and switched to a pre-med program. It was there, ironically that he discovered his love of guitar through a fellow med student that regularly brought a guitar to a weekly chemistry lab section, and ultimately became the inspiration for Jon to pick up a guitar of his own. Jon completed that pre-med program, but really what happened was that he discovered his love for the acoustic guitar and played endless hours while somehow finding time to study. “Sometimes we don’t chose music, it choses us”. Jon has continued to play over the last 25+ years and has been immersed in a variety of styles, including bluegrass, slack key, surf guitar, finger style blues, western swing and jazz. He now plays with the Seaside Serenade, a musical trio that resides in Half Moon Bay, and plays up and down the coastside.

Chinese Melodrama:
Chinese Melodrama delivers thought provoking lyrical content built on top of a full bodied layer of sound. Our acoustic rock duo comes from two very diverse musical backgrounds. Classically trained violinist Lisa Chu displays a magical color of inspirational beauty and sound on top of Randy Bales’ intricate melodies and deep energetic vocals. A hard edge to the not so traditional acoustic sound.
